Check out the first video if you haven't. My characters being immune to most damage is the result of very focused strategising in the first half.

We left off with tendrils and eyeballs moveblocked, our party with max MOV (allowing to evade most attacks easily) and other buffs on our characters (as well as debuffs on the enemies). We started attacking and slowly but confidently tore off more than 2K from HP. Now he's just got less than 10K left. Great!

I neglected to mention in the video description of the first part that I'm ignoring all the other enemies here and concentrating only on the boss. Why? This has nothing to do with it being a low level game, once the main part/boss is killed, you get the experience and coins for all enemies on the field, not just the part(s) you killed. Sometimes the other parts are terribly annoying and at the same time lacking hit points, making it a good idea to concentrate on the minions and minor parts first. But we blocked their moves and made attacks miss more often that not, we're more or less safe from everybody besides the boss.

The boss has many attacks that hurt or inflict bad statuses, so we have to cancel his attacks by Critical attacks and the regular special move every character has. Mareg's and Millenia's can do around 500 damage after we've lowered the boss's defence and buffed up out own attack.

It seems that the enemies have no trouble hitting us in some moments however, I believe it has something to do with the state of the character. If the character is about to attack or has just recovered from a blow, they appear to be very likely to be hit.

There is also the danger of the boss casting Refresh on one of the tendrils (he doesn't seem to care about the eyeballs at all). This will unblock the target's move and we may not have the MP necessary to recast Fiora (it costs 12 MP and we're all at low levels). So cancelling is the way to go. Refresh isn't attempted until the very end of the battle though.

A hard part of the battle is having everybody die at the right moment. Millenia, when she's hit, may go berserk, acting uncontrollably. In this state, she could cast powerful Zap magic and use Fallen Wings. If we try to get her killed off (so that only Mareg gets experience), she may go berserk at the worst moment possible and destroy the boss in near fatal state.

So Millenia should die a bit before everybody else.

Mareg should be at full health when the last ally dies, so that the enemies don't gang up on him, not letting him attack.

When his turn comes, I have him finish the battle off with an offensive item. Why? So that his attack isn't cancelled - with the Item ability mastered in the 3rd (I think) book (Book of Warriors or something), he uses the item instantly.

Oh yeah, and I didn't show what skills I equipped. Roan and Ryudo both had HP +300 skills on. Otherwise, they wouldn't have enough health to survive the beginning of the battle. Mareg had the Item ability. As he doesn't have the best stats to be a magic user, he supports the party with items before we do any attacking. So this ability is very suitable for him in this battle.

He gains two levels after the battle ends, and becomes even more useful to the party.

Will Valmar's Claws be easier than this one? I can't say. There's a really long period of no boss fighting before that fight, and most players have their characters in their mid 30s by the time they reach Valmar's Claws. With Ryudo at lv. 10 and Roan at lv. 8... Yeah, we should have a very challenging battle there.

I'll get back to this once I've kicked Kefka's ass in LLNSNI, so stay tuned.
