Breath of Fire II Retranslation Part 10: Portal
7Okay, say what now, the bulk-uploader is gone? Odd, it was still around when I shared a tennis round a couple of weeks ago.
Anyway, it's been brought to my attention that I haven't uploaded a video to continue this series for a long time and I remembered that I do happen to have a full folder of recordings of this playthrough waiting to be uploaded, so I made a new video. If you see me loafing about for a long period of time without uploading anything and want me to be more active, just bug me about it and chances are I already have the next part recorded but can't be bothered to share it. I usually log into the account every day to follow my subscriptions but rarely feel like sharing my own progress these days. So yeah, encourage me when I'm seemingly inactive.
Back to the game, Portal is a peculiar enemy in that he absorbs all magic attacks directed at him. This means Nina can't cast anything on the boss, but she sure can Slice him. Everybody else just attacks with regular physicals which are very effective in this game.
Nina is a good character to give Slice to, since you'll most likely want to place her in the back due to her low health and defences, and it does damage regardless of position, ignores enemy defence and consumes no AP. In a perfect game of sorts however, I'd opt to give it to Ryu because there's a lot more pragmatic value in such a decision. If you train or fight for items on the monster island a lot, Ryu is always in the party and you can be sure he disposes of some high defence-but-low-HP enemies that are common to that area, great for levelling up and getting rare ultimate equipment.
All Portal has that poses a danger to us is the Typhoon spell which hits everybody and hits hard too. If he casts it twice in a row, we might be in trouble because nobody's levelled enough to cast Cure on the whole party yet.
