Fourth video showing my progress in the low level game in the DS version of Final Fantasy 3 that I started in the summer.

Before this part in the game, the challenge has been extremely luck-dependent. A Knight/Viking protecting the party from physical attacks was almost always used in the strategy, and we prayed in pretty much every battle that the boss wouldn't use magic against her - because there was no good protection from magic.

In the previous battles, the magic that had a chance of being used was already powerful enough to provoke a restart upon being used. And I had to restart too many times just to finally succeed, thanks to seeing no magic. Backtrack to the previous videos in the series if you missed them to see how those went.

This... was a huge stall point for me. While most enemies we fought earlier had a low chance of casting magic before low on health, Doga has a 50% chance of casting something nasty at max health (and it gets progressively worse as he gets hurt). And he has lots of nasty stuff.

Doga's got 22,8K HP, and he moves twice per turn. He can attack physically (50%) or he may cast an -aga spell or drain one target's HP (usually killing him/her). The -aga spells can be multi-targeted, leaving only the White Mage alive (=reset). Once Doga's health gets low, he starts employing Flare (50%). Thanks to Kainmaster for these numbers.

As you can see, we must win as quickly as possible, preferably even in one turn. How can that be done? Well, you can fight Dog and Unei right after facing Hec, but there's no need to. It's a wise choice to go to the final dungeon immediately, fight Golem, get the final four jobs including Ninja and a lot of cool equipment (including the Crystal stuff which seriously pumps up the Viking, allowing him to take 0 damage from bosses' attacks without any defence buffs). I think the Golem battle is shown in the previous vid actually.

Ninjas (and a Devout without whom the final battle won't really be possible) are trained to job lv. 99. The Throw command's accuracy and power both depend on the user's job level (and the power is random to like 80%), so this is crucial.

We have two Ninjas, a Devout who heals everybody every turn with Cura/anything else that heals, and a Viking who provokes. Hopefully, the boss doesn't multicast anything and Blood Lances get thrown (strongest weapon that can be purchased in this game at this point).

In this battle, the Viking is killed by a spell. This was very risky as I couldn't afford finishing the battle with less than four character (for even exp distribution). Not to mention that the party was essentially left without its defence with the provoker dead. But it all turned out well with both Ninjas going before the boss on the second turn and the commands happening in the right order (first PD, then Throw).

Unei follows immediately afterwards and we don't even get to heal. She's got 1K less HP and no damaging spells until her HP is halved (when she starts using Holy which can't kill more than one character).

Though she has over 20K HP still, I somehow kill her... on the first turn? No other explanation but that damage can be above 9999 without it showing any more.

These two battles are the last in the challenge before the final boss. Can I really hope to stand a chance at lv. 20 with 450 HP per character? Not really. But I'm going to get all the stuff from the final dungeon first and experiment with some strategies I've got in mind. Then I'll tackle the final boss and see which level really is the lowest for beating him.

Will I mass-buy Shurikens to be spammed? I don't think so... Ninjas don't survive well in the final battle, especially at our levels. I have another party in mind actually.
