FF6 - Low Level Game Part XVI: Tritoch & Umaro
A human-loving, fast-talking, street-smart, SLAM, no kidding, SLAM-dancing Moogle joins our party.
Mog joins the party 5 levels above the average and quickly becomes the party's highest levelled character, not counting Gau who'll spend the rest of his existence on the Veldt. However, the level is not as important. What Mog really does bring to our party is:
1) Perfect defence. The combination of a Genji Shield, a Genji Helmet and, most importantly, a Snow Muffler gives Mog a defence of 255 - enough to make a majority of bosses' attacks, no matter how strong, deal 0 damage when the moogle is in the back row.
It's not a secret that keeping the entire party at critical health and giving Mog the True Knight relic gives them invincibility in a few battles, and extra protection in most other battles.
2) Moogle Charm. Exploring's been made far easier with the lack of random encounters.
The first boss is not a huge problem thanks to our Wall Rings and to make the situation better we've got a much more powerful team with better damage potential now. As you may have noticed, I've got Gogo on my team. This means I no longer have to take the burden that is Edgar with me to Debilitate enemies, and I can pretty much turn Gogo into anyone - a Rage, Step Mine or Bum Rush user. At this point, in addition to the useful Tools and Item commands Gogo either gets Blitz or Lore, whichever is appropriate for the situation.
Celes is there for Runic, but not entirely. The Ragnarok has been turned into an Illumina and, although hitting enemies with it results in miserable damage, the Pearl spell that sometimes kicks in hurts remarkably.
Sabin is still a very strong offensive character thanks to the Bum Rush blitz.
One can argue I shouldn't have bothered using Mog's Dance command at all, since most of his random attacks are useless against bosses, but I figured I'd kill the bosses quicker, since one of his moves includes a non-fractional magical fire-elemental attack. He only did it a few times though, so I regret selecting the Dance command in both cases. He's used best just standing there, I guess.
Tritoch uses Ice 3, Rasp and Cold Dust. Ice 3 is reflected back at him and actually does damage instead of healing the Esper once the enemy is debilitated. Rasp is a joke against an LLNMG team, however, Cold Dust (freezes one character) is really annoying, since there's no way to heal it without killing your own characters.
Umaro relies solely on physicals, so this is the easiest battle ever. Mog should be given True Knight and his perfect defence setup, and the rest of the party should be at critical HP. Umaro's weak to poison, so inflict that status and then kill him quickly.
