FFT - Level 1 Random Reclass MBO - Part 16: Chantage Get!
16th segment of this challenge (with a title that's too long and detailed to casually repeat in a sentence) in which we advance a little into the game's fourth and last chapter, obtaining a very important accessory on the way.

13 Lenneth - Chemist (again)
12 Mitsuru - Archer
12 Ryu - Mediator
After a bunch of assassination maps, this is a battle where we have to beat absolutely everyone to win for a change. That does make it more difficult, believe it or not, as we can't just bum rush the boss and call it a day, and have to develop a strategy that actually keeps the party alive for a long period of time.
As you can see later into the battle when half the party is KO'd and another is in critical HP, this was a very hard map.
I've relied on casters for damage for a large portion of the run, as long as the RNG was nice to let me have one/some, and here the closest I have to a caster is Geomancer Ramza. Properly equipped and customised, his Black Magic can put a small dent into some foes, hopefully more than one once or twice. I could've bought an Ice Brand for this, and it would've helped a little bit later, but did not - kinda regretted it too as money wasn't THAT much of an issue at the time, and you get a lot of money from most mandatory fights.
One Chemist and one Mediator means stable damage output with guns, guaranteed accuracy and proper healing (didn't teach Lenneth X-Potion but Ryu does have it).
Overall, even if you snipe/shoot both the Wizards, the two Lancers and Knight pose a huge threat offensively. One swing of a sword or a lance and it's not too unlikely somebody previously receiving chip damage will be KO'd or even get OHKO'd with good/best compatibility. Evasion can help here, so some Mantles were distributed among the party members here, but Lancers' Jump guarantees to connect and attacks from the sides or behind also mean somebody has to fall. Building chokepoints or walls doesn't seem terribly effective with generally good enemy Jump stats, though there is some semblance of that strategy-making style a couple times in the video, but not anymore than is usual for me.
The enemy Archer is a complete bastard and even though I took measures to give nearly everyone (sans Ramza I guess) Arrow Guard, he'd either hit through it (at 19%!) or focus on Ramza who didn't have it. Sucks.
This tough battle takes up most of the video.
Meliadoul RNG
15 Ramza - Summoner
12 Crono - Time Mage
13 Lenneth - Squire
12 Mitsuru - Knight
12 Ryu - Mediator (again)
Meliadoul is nasty and breaks our equips. She also has Chantage, an accessory we really desire. What do?
First of all, I had to choose between learning Steal: accessory for this fight or Steal: weapon to get Balk's Blaze Gun a little later on into the 4th chapter. My choice wasn't surprising - Chantage can always be given to a female character and make her perform some otherwise impossible mini-strats wherever I send her on the field. Blaze Gun is all kinds of fun, but only usable when a gun user is around (or when somebody learns Mediator's Equip Gun for a whopping 750 JP, which is a little bit too much and so can never happen in this run).
Getting equipment broken isn't a pleasant sight to behold, but luckily Meli likes going for Crono (good compat with him) so giving him some disposable, cheap equips is a good idea to minimise the damage inflicted upon our wallet / inventory.
If all goes according to plan, Meli will be able to attack just once before the map is done with. First, the party closest to her features my Squire with Steal: accessory learnt and a Mediator for healing in case something gets thrown and connects against the Squire thief. The left party consists of mobile units who can get to Meli quickly and start attacking her. I derp'd here, giving Ramza a Black Robe even though Titan doesn't get powered up by this. The damage was enough to end this quickly regardless.
Eventually, Meli eats a Titan and moves in to break Crono's equipment, KOing him. The Squire thief moves behind her and attempts to steal at something close to a coin flip chance, even better than that. Martial Arts equipped as passive and doing it from behind both bolster the chances of success, which I exploited accordingly to cut the number of resets necessary to win this.
Finath River
Most people know why this is easy, but just in case - the Chocobo / wild monster levels here are equal to the party average, so that makes the enemies here level 1! Monsters and chocobos especially also vary wildly in power in relation to humans with equipment at same levels, so their attacks and techniques will barely tickly.
Ramza gets the unique chance to gain some USquire JP here. Not enough to learn Scream sadly - now wouldn't that be nice?
