Digimon Adventure - Low Level Part 3: Patamon's Rise to Glory
So I created a playlist for this:

In this video, I show three battles that I saw as highlights of the Devimon arc of the story. They all involve Patamon in some way, hence the title of this upload.
Patamon gets his Champion form way later than the rest of the party, and this actually applies to his Ultimate form as well, but damn if that one isn't worth the wait.
- Elecmon
Patamon has to solo this one. Not only does he lack a good amount of max HP to do it comfortably, but his digipiece grid is shaped in a way that doesn't let him equip much of note.
Giving him Charge (+atk and +def in one action but expensive) would've been a good idea but there was no space for it. I had to settle with the Anger reaction instead, giving Patamon a good chance to get +2 atk while dealing chip damage and healing.
Only when Patamon reached a sufficient attack boost, I would start attacking with Boom Bubble (or Air Shot? I'm too used to that one name). It's pretty expensive to be spammed otherwise.
With Heal digipiece applied (a really cheap skill), I end up not spending any restorative items. I was really economical about those because shopping doesn't exist in the game, but in the end it turned out that I could end the game barely using any items at all. Go figure.
- Leomon II
Our second fight against Leomon. He's hit by the black gear again, which causes him to turn dark too - that's just how evil he is huh!
Leomon has Super Counter reaction now, which differs from the regular Counter in that it is triggered everytime you try to touch its wielder, whereas Counter is less reliable (same with Anger apparently).
He's also much stronger this time around and doesn't receive a whole lot of damage until I break his defence with Garurumon. A fact about stat debuffs is that the lowest a stat can get is -1. I thought differently at the time I did this battle (somehow erroneously thought it was -2 from interpreting past evidence incorrectly), while stat boosters reach a maximum of +2 (which seems to double the damage done in the case of attack).
While Greymon was my main attacker due to that high attack stat, Garurumon was the supporter/debuffer and occasional attacker, while Patamon did the healing and the buffing of Greymon whenever healing wasn't necessary (the first turn pretty much).
Only Agumon was forced in this fight, and while it's easy to see why I picked Gabumon second (highest speed in the party by far, at least until Gatomon joins but Gatomon is a Champion not a Rookie so whatever stats are seen in the menu for her are inflated at least a little bit) it's not as clear for Patamon. I could've gone for Ikkakumon because of Icicle Coat being an excellent buff, or Kabuterimon for the tankiness, but the reason is just that Patamon has poor availability and the more levels I give him the easier it is to face his compulsory battles (Elecmon would've also been easier if I'd favoured Patamon in some of the previous battles where I mostly ignored him, but it wasn't too bad anyway).
Leomon is bulky, but when buffs/debuffs are at work, the damage is eventually too much for him to take and he succumbs to it.
- Devimon II (second and last of his two forms)
The first boss who gets the Double Action ability in this game (all of the ones with storyline importance seem to get the same). Angemon is forced in the second fight (in the first, you get Leomon to fight on your side with 2000 max HP so it's longer but also easier), freshly digivolved for the first time.
In this game, some attacks and characters are better than others at dealing damage to certain types of monsters and bosses, and Angemon striking an evil digimon like Devimon for ridiculous damage is the first example of this.
It's actually a good idea to focus entirely on him as the main means of dishing out damage here, as he'll deal like 5-10x the damage others are capable of.
The damage inflicted on Devimon is the largest we've seen thus far in this run, but it'll grow even bigger when we continue digivolving and face tougher foes.
Surprisingly, Devimon isn't much of an offensive threat. Maybe that's because of Icicle Coat and Kabuterimon's ludicrous bulk!
