Here we have put the Forza 6 demo to the test: to see if its performance can live up to the lofty 60fps standard set by its predecessors. Based on our analysis during gameplay, it does an admirable job with dropped or torn frames rarely cropping up in a race. However, during the races intro sequences we see the game lock to 30 frames per second for their duration.
One small exception to this locked 60fps during gameplay is the Indianapolis event, in which we see the occurrence of slightly more dropped frames than usual as well a 50ms frame time spike. Also present in this event is some judder issues that aren't related to the games frame rate which can be viewed here: http://bit.ly/1UqPdrW. Notice that even though the frames are not identical, the cars position remains the same in both frames. To the player this will be perceived similarly to a dropped frame even though the frames are actually unique.
Reflections in the mirrors which are done by rendering the scene again from a different camera perspective run at 30 frames per second. On the other hand, the Screen Space Reflections on the bonnet are updated every frame. The reflections on the bonnet are identifiable as SSRs due to player indicators also being included in the reflection.
The water effects on the windshield in the cockpit view also update at 30 frames per second. However, every other rain effect seems to run at a full 60fps.
The Forza Motorsport 6 demo on Xbox One runs at a native resolution of 1920x1080.
As always, please watch in HD (preferably 1080p) and 60fps for the best viewing experience.
