Partly sped up to fit into one video.

Had some progress in a challenge I started some time ago. Actually, I forgot about having started this challenge, and didn't remember about it until I casually decided to do a normal playthru in it.

I stopped just before one of the coolest boss battles. Not the one in the video, but the uber boss immediately afterwards.

The eyeballs... can be tough. They have a normal physical attack (that is nearly impossible to cancel with a Critical because they dash in a ridiculously fast manner when they attack) and the special Delta Burst which can be executed as long as all four Eyeballs are alive.

Delta Burst is a pain in the arse, dealing ~400 damage to whomever it hits. And Roan, who's at lv. 8, has less than that without the HP boost from a skill book (that is pretty much mandatory to keep him alive).

The move can be blocked with Fiora, a spell that tries to moveblock a number of foes within the range of the targeted enemies. Now, I *could* activate Fiora in one of the magic books (either Holy or Chaos), but the next battle seemed more crucial, so I decided against spending magic points until I reach the boss and am able to experiment. Though there's no reason why I wouldn't just use multiple files and make this battle easier by buffing up in advance, the storyline is extensive and I don't want to have to go through it so many times.

So we're fighting with the basic spells and barely any power-ups, which makes the battle harder.

If one eyeball dies, none of them can use Delta Burst any more. This is why we must get rid of one enemy as soon as possible. These things have 3K HP each. My damage potential... is very low, yes. Mareg hits for over 200 damage with a normal Combo attack, Ryudo can use his Flamberge as an item to cast Burn! without spending any MP (and do more damage with it than Elena casting Burn! as a spell, surprisingly) for around 270 damage. We can use a Bone Harp (iirc) item to reduce the enemies defence to kill them quicker; however, there is a likelihood that this item will break.

The beginning is the hardest part, with all four eyeballs alive and attacking. Roan gets unlucky here, with all enemies ganging up on him. He dies, and I have to use a reviving item. They're pretty expensive, so I restarted the battle not to waste any afterwards. We need whatever money we can save in this challenge (though we do get plenty as treasure).

Elena has to cast Snooze to keep the other eyeballs asleep, hopefully it connects. Meanwhile everybody heals, Roan raises the party's defence and we try to squeeze in as many attacks as possible.

Sleep wears off very quickly, so Elena has to cast it non-stop in the beginning of the battle.

I almost failed the ending in an epic way. Basically, Mareg has to swallow up all the experience as he's the only character of the four who won't be in the party when we end the game (hope this hasn't spoiled anything for you). He'll get 200 exp and the battle will end without anybody levelling up. Very nice.

But this means we need everybody else killed off. I mess up the timing in a very extreme way at the end, with two eyeballs still alive when Ryudo dies, leaving Mareg solo (I was optimistic and thought Mareg could finish this part alone really easily and left two eyeballs alive and not one on purpose, to make sure the other characters die quicker).

What I forgot about was just how damn quick these devils are. They counter Mareg over and over, over and over, not letting him deal his final blows. I was sure I'd game over this attempt for a moment, but still somehow won. Will be a lesson for me then.
