(sped up; the actual battle took 45 minutes)

One of the game's hardest bosses fought with a low level party.

My levels at this point:
Ryudo - 10
Millenia - 16
Roan - 8
Mareg - 16 (18 after the battle)

Everybody hates this boss battle. You fight seven enemies at once and each is from moderately to substantially healthy making it difficult to get rid of the weaker minions to facilitate the battle. Annoying statuses are employed by all three parts of the boss, and the attacks thrown our way can get very powerful. The eyeballs (the same ones we fought in the previous mini-boss battle) hit for over 200 damage, the eye's tendrils hit for over 300, and each enemy out of these seven has a nasty special that hits hard and/or inflicts nasty statuses.

In a normal game, you do this fight offensively; that is, by spamming your strongest multi-target attacks. Here... Well, let's just say you don't have even close to the amount of magic coins needed to master the weakest spells. Specials? Mareg's the best attacker in the party and his special deals under 500 damage AFTER the target's defence is reduced all the way down with debuffs and Mareg's own attack is maxed with buff magic. Compare that with enemy health:

Valmar's Eye - 12k
Tendrils 2x - 6k
Eyeballs 4x - 3k

Of course, Mareg runs out of SP to use specials after using his special thrice... Yeah, offence can't possibly work in this challenge.

So we have to survive this battle somehow.

The specials are of particular damage. With whatever Magic coins we have, we activate and master Fiora and Snooze in Holy and Chaos eggs. Snooze puts everybody to sleep. And guess what, everybody but the boss can be put to sleep. They wake up immediately though, but it stops them from attacking for a moment. Fiora moveblocks them, preventing the nasty specials.

But there are still physical attacks, so Roan should work on building up the party's evasion with Runner. Once used five times, they will be a lot harder to touch, though the boss can still cause much havoc with his rich arsenal of moves and spells and complete immunity to statuses.

Once Runner has been cast 5 times and all enemies but the boss are under moveblock status, we proceed by buffing up Mareg's attack (he's the only decent attacker because he joined at a rather high level), lowering the enemies' defence with debuffs and slowly starting to poke the boss with attacks.

I'm at risk the entire battle, with everybody being close to death at one point or another but somehow surviving. If somebody dies, they lose all the evasion bonuses and will continue dying once revived. We don't want this.

How did the second half of this hard battle go? Find out in the next video.

and Merry Christmas, everybody!
