How to Adjust PS5 Volume for Headset or Controller Speaker (Easy Method)
To adjust the PS5 volume for a headset or controller speaker, follow these steps:
For Headset:
Using the PS5 Settings:
Connect your headset to the PS5 via the controller’s 3.5mm jack, USB, or wirelessly.
Go to Settings, Sound, Audio Output.
Select Output Device and choose your headset, e.g., Headset Connected to Controller or USB/wireless model.
Adjust Volume (Headphones) using the slider to set the desired level.
Optionally, tweak Balance to adjust left/right audio or enable 3D Audio for compatible headsets.
Using the Control Center:
Press the PS button on your controller to open the Control Center.
Select the Sound icon, headphone/speaker icon.
Adjust the Headphones volume slider.
If using a mic, you can also adjust Mic Level here.
Headset-Specific Controls:
Some headsets, e.g., Sony Pulse 3D, have built-in volume buttons or dials. Use these for quick adjustments.
Check your headset’s manual for model-specific controls.
For Controller Speaker:
Using the PS5 Settings:
Go to Settings, Sound, Audio Output.
Scroll to Controller Speaker and adjust the volume slider.
Note: The controller speaker is used for game audio cues or voice chat if no headset is connected.
Using the Control Center:
Press the PS button to open the Control Center.
Select the Sound icon.
Adjust the Controller Speaker volume slider.
Mute Controller Speaker:
Press the mute button, below the PS button on the DualSense controller, to mute the controller speaker instantly.
Alternatively, go to Settings, Sound, Audio Output and set Controller Speaker to Off.
Additional Tips:
Prioritize Output Device: If both a headset and controller speaker are active, the headset takes priority for most audio. Go to Settings, Sound, Audio Output, Output Device to confirm your preferred device.
Mic Monitoring for Headsets: To hear your own voice in the headset, go to Settings, Sound, Microphone, Adjust Mic Level and enable Sidetone.
Game/Chat Balance: For headsets, adjust game audio vs. voice chat volume in the Control Center under Sound, Game/Chat Balance.
Firmware Update: Ensure your PS5 and controller firmware are up to date, Settings, System, System Software, System Software Update, to avoid audio issues.
Test Audio: Play a game or use the Test Audio feature in Settings, Sound, Audio Output to verify volume levels.
