How to get Best DNS Server for Xbox Series X or S (Get Faster internet)
To get the best DNS server for your Xbox Series X or S to improve connection speed and reduce latency for online gaming, follow these steps:
Step 1: Find the Best DNS Server
Test Popular DNS Providers:
Google Public DNS: 8.8.8.8 Primary, 8.8.4.4 Secondary – Reliable and fast globally.
Cloudflare: 1.1.1.1 Primary, 1.0.0.1 Secondary – Fast with privacy focus.
OpenDNS by Cisco: 208.67.222.222 Primary, 208.67.220.220 Secondary – Offers filtering.
Quad9: 9.9.9.9 Primary, 149.112.112.112 Secondary – Security-focused.
Your ISP’s DNS: Check your router or ISP’s website; may be faster locally but less reliable.
Use a DNS Benchmark Tool:
On a PC on the same network, download GRC DNS Benchmark or namebench.
Run the tool to find the fastest DNS servers for your location. Note the top primary and secondary DNS addresses.
Ping Test Manually:
On a PC, open Command Prompt or Terminal and ping DNS servers:
Example: ping 8.8.8.8
Lower ping times in milliseconds indicate faster servers.
Test multiple servers like 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8 and choose the lowest latency.
Consider Location:
DNS servers closer to your region, like Cloudflare’s 1.1.1.1 for North America, often perform better. Check provider websites for regional servers.
Step 2: Set DNS on Xbox Series X or S
Open Settings:
Press the Xbox button to open the Guide.
Go to Profile & System, select Settings, then General, then Network Settings.
Configure DNS:
Select Advanced Settings, then DNS Settings.
Choose Manual.
Enter the Primary DNS and Secondary DNS from your chosen provider, like 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 for Google.
Press B to save.
Test Connection:
Go to Network Settings and select Test Network Connection.
Ensure the connection is successful and check for improved latency or NAT type; aim for Open NAT.
Step 3: Optimize and Verify
Clear Cache:
Go to Settings, Devices & Connections, Blu-ray, Persistent Storage, then Clear Persistent Storage.
Restart the console: Settings, General, Power Mode & Startup, Restart Console.
Test In-Game Performance:
Launch a game like Fortnite or Call of Duty and check for reduced lag, faster matchmaking, or stable voice chat.
If performance doesn’t improve, try another DNS provider and retest.
Monitor NAT Type:
In Network Settings, select Test NAT Type. Open NAT is ideal. If Moderate or Strict, ensure UPnP is enabled on your router or forward Xbox Live ports: UDP 88, 3074, etc.
Recommended DNS for Gaming
Cloudflare: 1.1.1.1, 1.0.0.1 – Fastest for North America and Europe, privacy-focused.
Google: 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4 – Reliable worldwide, consistent performance.
Local ISP DNS: May be faster if nearby, but public DNS providers are often more stable.
