While you can manually mute your PS5 controller's microphone with a quick press of the mute button, the best and most convenient method for ensuring it's always muted is by changing a system-wide setting. This prevents you from having to remember to press the button every time you log in or turn on your console.

How to Automatically Mute Your Mic
From the PS5 home screen, go to Settings (the gear icon ⚙ ️ in the top-right corner).

Navigate down and select Sound.

On the left-hand menu, select Microphone.

Look for the setting called "Microphone Status When Logged In."

By default, this setting is set to "On." Change it to "Mute."

Now, whenever you turn on your PS5 and log in, the microphone on your DualSense controller will be automatically muted. You'll know it's off because the dedicated mute button below the PlayStation button will glow with a solid orange light.
