Solid layers are commonly used in After Effects projects and have many uses in creating different effects. Fortunately, the color of a solid can be changed at any time through the layer menu at the top of After Effects. The solid layer settings can all be adjusted from this window, including the color. The solid settings can also be opened through the use of a keyboard shortcut.

When you change the color of a solid in After Effects the layer will remain the same, with all the effects still applied. If the same layer style is used in multiple compositions then the color will change in every comp. This means that in some cases you may prefer to create a new solid with the new color that you want to use. Also if you are using one solid for multiple different things in the same comp then the color of all solid layers will change.
