How to Resize an Image in Photoshop CC (Make a Layer Bigger or Smaller)
An image or layer can be resized in Photoshop using the transform mode. To enter transform mode in Photoshop you can use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + T or Command + T on a Mac. When in transform mode the image will have an outline with the center points and corners marked. Clicking and dragging from one of the edges will adjust the size of the image on that side. Dragging from the corner will resize the layer’s sides that meet in the selected corner.
When you rescale a layer the resolution of the image will be affected. Enlarging an image can result in a blurry or pixelated image. If you are unsure of which size you want to use then you can convert the image into a smart object to maintain the resolution of the image.
A great tip when resizing an image is to use keyboard keys to maintain the aspect ratio and position. Holding down Shift while you drag out the image sides will increase the size in proportion, maintaining the ratio. Another option is to hold Shift and Alt, or Shift and Option on a Mac. Doing this will keep the position intact while equally resizing each side of the image equally.
