Clearing the system software cache on your PS5 is a valuable troubleshooting step that can resolve a variety of issues, from sluggish performance to glitches and slow loading times. The best and most direct way to do this is through the console's Safe Mode.


Here is a step-by-step guide on how to clear the system software cache:

1. Turn off your PS5 completely.

Do not put it in Rest Mode. Go to the Power options on the console's menu and select "Turn Off PS5."


2. Access Safe Mode.

With the console fully off, press and hold the power button on the console itself.

You will hear a single beep when you first press it.

Continue holding the button until you hear a second beep, which will happen about seven seconds later.

Release the button after the second beep. Your PS5 will now boot into Safe Mode.

3. Connect your controller.

Once in Safe Mode, you will be prompted to connect your DualSense controller with a USB cable.

Use the cable that came with your PS5 or another data-capable USB-C cable.

Press the PS button on the controller to proceed.

4. Select "Clear Cache and Rebuild Database."

In the Safe Mode menu, use your controller to navigate to and select option number six, "Clear Cache and Rebuild Database."

5. Choose "Clear System Software Cache."

A new menu will appear. Select "Clear System Software Cache."

The process is very quick and will not delete any of your games, apps, or saved data. It only removes temporary files that can cause issues.


6. Wait for the process to complete.

The console will restart on its own after the cache is cleared.

Once it boots back up, your PS5 should be running more smoothly.
