About this video: PurPur is a newer Minecraft server software that is based on PaperMC. It has all of the features Paper has including support for Spigot and Bukkit plugins. However, PurPur adds in even more performance features alongside better customization for those features. Letting you turn them on and off easily giving you even more control than you would have with a Paper server.
To get started making a PurPur server in 1.21, you will need to download the PurPur server file. You can find a link in the description above that will take you to PurPur’s official download page. On this page, there is a link to download PurPur. Just make sure the Minecraft 1.21 version is select. Click the download button next to the most recent version, and PurPur 1.21 will start downloading.
After it is downloaded, create a “PurPur Minecraft Server 1.21” folder on your desktop and drag-and-drop the PurPur file you downloaded into this folder.
Right-click on the purpur jar file you downloaded and select “Rename”. Rename the file to simply “purpur”. Now, right click in the PurPur Minecraft Server 1.21 folder and create a new text document. Open that text document and copy and paste a code from the description above depending on how much RAM you want on your server.
Then, click File and “Save As”. Save the file with the name “run.bat”, and make sure to set the “Save Type As” drop down to “All Files”.
Now, there will be a run.bat file in your PurPur server folder. Double click this, and your 1.21 PurPur server will try to start. However, it will fail. This is because you need to agree to the Minecraft EULA.
It is also worth noting that you will need to get Java 21 in order for a PurPur server to be able to start. If you are having trouble starting your server or you can’t get files to generate, you most likely need Java 21. There is a link to download it in the description above.
Once you have the eula.txt file, open it, and assuming you agree to the Minecraft EULA, change “eula=false” to “eula=true” and save the file.
Double-click the run.bat file again, and your Minecraft 1.21 PurPur server will start. You can now join the server using the IP address “localhost”. For your friends to join, you will need to port forward the port 25565 on the TCP and UDP protocols. You can find an in-depth guide on port forwarding linked above.
To add plugins to your PurPur server, just download the plugins you want and add them to the “plugins” folder in the server’s main directory where your .jar file is. When you restart the server after adding plugins, they will activate automatically.
