How to Factory Reset iPhone before Selling it (Erase All Data)
To factory reset your iPhone before selling it and ensure all data is securely erased, follow these steps based on Apple’s official method. This process removes all personal data, apps, and settings, making the device ready for a new owner.
Steps to Factory Reset an iPhone
Back Up Your Data (Optional):
If you want to save your data, create a backup:
iCloud: Go to Settings - [Your Name] - iCloud - iCloud Backup - Back Up Now. Ensure Wi-Fi is connected and wait for the backup to complete.
Computer: Connect your iPhone to a Mac or PC. Use Finder (macOS Catalina or later) or iTunes (Windows or older macOS), select your device, and click Back Up Now.
Verify the backup is complete before proceeding.
Sign Out of iCloud and Disable Find My iPhone:
Open Settings - [Your Name].
Scroll down and tap Sign Out.
Enter your Apple ID password and tap Turn Off to disable Find My iPhone.
This step removes the Activation Lock, ensuring the new owner can set up the device.
Erase All Content and Settings:
Go to Settings - General - Transfer or Reset iPhone.
Tap Erase All Content and Settings.
Enter your iPhone passcode and, if prompted, your Apple ID password.
Confirm by tapping Erase iPhone (you may need to tap it twice).
The iPhone will restart, and all data, including apps, photos, contacts, and settings, will be securely erased. This process may take a few minutes.
Verify the Reset:
After the reset, the iPhone will restart and show the Hello screen (the initial setup screen).
Do not proceed with setup. Power off the device and prepare it for sale.
