How to Fade Out Audio in After Effects CC
This tutorial will show you how to fade out audio in After Effects CC. Fading out audio can be used to mute certain parts, switch between sections, change music, or end a video. A slow fade out of audio is often used at the end of a video as a clean way to end. The audio fading out signals to the viewer that the video is over, or the section is changing.
To fade out audio in After Effects you will need to lower the audio level with keyframes over time. The standard audio level is 0. Lowering the audio level to the minuses will quieten the audio and fade it out the lower it gets. Because of the way audio works the amount you need to lower the audio levels to will vary from track to track. You will need to make two keyframes, one keyframe at the start of where you want the audio to fade out, and the second to completely mute the audio.
The gap between the keyframes is where the audio will fade. The wider the gap between keyframes the longer the fade will last. Moving the keyframes closer together will speed up the fade.
The second keyframe will typically be set between -40 and -80, Opening the audio waveform will allow you to see the fade better. If the value of the second keyframe is too low then the audio will fade out before you intended. When this happens you will need the audio level up closer to the -40 range.
