How to Fix iPhone Not Charging (Best Method)
If your iPhone isn’t charging, try these troubleshooting steps to identify and resolve the issue:
1. Check the Basics
Inspect the Cable and Charger:
Ensure you’re using an Apple-certified (MFi) Lightning or USB-C cable and charger.
Look for fraying, bent pins, or damage on the cable and connector.
Clean the charging port gently with a toothpick or compressed air to remove dust or debris.
Try a Different Power Source:
Plug the charger into a different wall outlet, USB port, or power bank.
Test with another compatible cable or charger to rule out a faulty accessory.
Remove Case: If using a case, remove it to ensure it’s not obstructing the connection.
2. Restart Your iPhone
Perform a soft reset:
For iPhone 8 or later: Press and release Volume Up, then Volume Down, then press and hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears.
For iPhone 7/7 Plus: Press and hold Volume Down and Power buttons together until the Apple logo appears.
For iPhone 6s or earlier: Press and hold Home and Power buttons until the Apple logo appears.
Try charging again after the restart.
3. Check for Software Issues
Update iOS: Go to Settings - General - Software Update to ensure your iPhone is running the latest iOS version (as of July 1, 2025, check for iOS 18 or later updates).
Check Battery Health: Go to Settings - Battery -Battery Health & Charging to see if the battery capacity is significantly degraded (below 80% may indicate a need for replacement).
Disable Optimized Battery Charging: Temporarily turn off Optimized Battery Charging in Battery Health & Charging to see if it affects charging.
4. Test Wireless Charging (if applicable)
If your iPhone supports wireless charging (iPhone 8 or later), try a Qi-certified wireless charger.
Ensure the charger is plugged in and the iPhone is centered on the pad.
Remove any thick cases or metal objects that might interfere with wireless charging.
5. Force Restart or Reset Settings
If a soft reset doesn’t work, try a force restart (same steps as above).
Reset all settings: Go to Settings - General - Transfer or Reset iPhone - Reset - Reset All Settings. Note: This won’t erase data but will reset Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and other settings.
