How to Lock your Photos App on your iPhone using Shortcuts (100% Works)
To lock the Photos app on your iPhone using the Shortcuts app, you can create an automation that locks the screen when the Photos app is opened, requiring Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode to access it. This method, available since iOS 16.4, locks the entire iPhone rather than just the app, but it adds a security layer. Note: On iOS 18+, you can lock the Photos app natively without Shortcuts (see below for details), but the Shortcuts method works on iOS 16.4–17. Here’s how to set it up:
Using Shortcuts (iOS 16.4–17)
Open Shortcuts App:
Launch the Shortcuts app (pre-installed on iOS).
Ensure your iPhone is on iOS 16.4 or later (Settings - General - About - iOS Version).
Create a New Automation:
Tap the Automation tab at the bottom.
Click + (top-right) - Create Personal Automation.
Select App Trigger:
Scroll and tap App.
Tap Choose, select Photos, ensure Is Opened is checked, then tap Done.
Add Lock Screen Action:
Tap Add Action, search for Lock Screen, and select it.
Tap Next, then toggle off Ask Before Running.
Tap Don’t Ask to confirm, then tap Done.
Test the Automation:
Open the Photos app. Your iPhone should lock immediately.
Unlock with Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode to access Photos.
