About this video: This video is our complete guide on how to make a Paper server in Minecraft 1.18. Our goal when this video is complete is that you have a PaperMC server setup and able to run plugins in Minecraft 1.18.1. That is actually one of the biggest benefits of a Paper Minecraft server - you can install plugins on it. We have a separate video in the description on how to get plugins once your Paper server is setup. So, without anymore delay, here is how to make a Paper server in Minecraft 1.18.1!
First things first, we will need to download Paper 1.18.1 from PaperMC’s website. You can find a link to download Paper 1.18.1 in the description above. When you click that link, it will take you to our website. Scroll down and click the ‘Download Paper’ button to be taken to the official Paper Minecraft server website. Once you are there click the blue download button. This will have a number on it for the build of Paper you are downloading. The higher this number the better. When you click the blue download button, PaperMC 1.18.1 will start downloading. the file may need to be saved or kept depending on your browser.
Once you have Paper downloaded, it is time to actually host a Paper Minecraft server in 1.18.1. First, create a folder on your desktop named ‘1.18.1 Paper Minecraft Server’. Then, drag-and-drop the Paper.jar file you downloaded into this folder. Then, right click and create a new text document. Open this new text document and paste the run.bat code from the description above into it. Then, click file, save as, and name the file ‘run.bat’. Make sure you change save type as to ‘all files’. Then, save this file. Finally, rename the Paper file you downloaded to simply ‘paper.jar’. Double click the run.bat file. The server will generate a few files, but fail to start. If it doesn't, this is because you need to download Java 17. You can find a link on how to do this in the description above.
In order to actually start your Paper 1.18.1 server, you will need to agree to the EULA. To do this, open up the EULA.txt file with notepad and change EULA=false to EULA=true. Save the EULA and double click the run.bat file again. Your server will now start up with Paper 1.18.1!
You aren't completely finished though. You still need to port forward in order for your friend to join your PaperMC server.
