About this video: This video is our complete guide on how to play Minecraft with friends in 1.16.2. We show you exactly how to make a Minecraft 1.16.2 server. From setting up a Minecraft server to allowing your friends to join your Minecraft server in 1.16.2, this video will show you exactly how to do it all. Thus, without any more delay, here is how to play Minecraft 1.16.2 with your friends using a server!
The first step of getting a Minecraft server in 1.16.2 is downloading the server files. You can find the like to the ‘Server Download’ in the description above. That will actually take you to our text tutorial for making a Minecraft server in 1.16.2. Once you are here, just click the green ‘Download’ button. This will take you to Minecraft’s official website where you can click the green ‘minecraft_server.1.16.2.jar’ link. When you click that, your Minecraft server file will start downloading. You will need to keep/save the file on your browser.
Once your Minecraft server is downloaded, it is time to install the Minecraft server files for 1.16.2 on your computer. To do this, create a folder on your desktop title ‘Minecraft 1.16.2 Server’, and drag-and-drop the ‘server.jar’ file into it. Open that folder, and double-click on the ‘server.jar’ file. This will generate a few files in the folder.
Specifically, there will be an ‘EULA.txt’ file. Open that file with notepad, and as long as you agree to Minecraft EULA, change ‘eula=false’ to ‘eula=true’. Save the file. You can now double click on the ‘server.jar’ file again. This time, you will see your world folder appear, and the server’s GUI will shop up. Here you can enter commands as well as see your server’s console.
At this point, you can join your server with your local IPv4 address, but your friends can’t join. Luckily, you will need your IPv4 address if you plan to port forward. To get this, open up the start menu and search for ‘cmd’. Open it, and type ‘ipconfig’ and hit enter. You will then see an ‘IPv4’ address and ‘Default Gateway’. Make note of both of these numbers. You can join your server by entering this IPv4 address into Minecraft as your server’s IP. Only you can join your server with this IP though.
What if you want to play Minecraft 1.16.2 with your friends though? Well, in this case, you will need to port forward. We cover how to port for a Minecraft server in 1.16.2 in-depth in this video and our text tutorial. However, the basics of it are that you need to forward port 25565 on the TCP and UDP protocols.
After you have port forwarded, you can get your public IP from the link above, and your friends should be able to join your Minecraft server in 1.16.2. Finally, you can play Minecraft with your friends on PC!
Congratulations! You now know how to make a Minecraft server in 1.16.2 on PC.
