First and foremost, we want to talk about public modded servers. These are like the servers you normally see on Minecraft server lists. 99% of these servers are based on plugins, and thus, they don’t have options for modpacks and different mods. Why is this? Because modded servers are super difficult to maintain. They take tons of maintenance, and usually, mods and modpacks aren’t built to hold data for thousands upon thousands of players. This makes data loss more common, and thus, servers that try to run this way don’t last long.
If there aren’t a lot of public servers out there, then how do you play modded Minecraft with your friends on PC? Well, the answer is pretty simple - you start your owner server. There are basically two ways to start your own server. The first is with a remote server host like Apex Minecraft Hosting. The second is on your own computer. There are upsides to both, so we’ll cover them both here.
The simplest way to play modded Minecraft with your friends is by far using a remote server host.
