About this video: Why would you want to learn how to make a Paper server in Minecraft 1.21? Well, PaperMC is a Minecraft server software that allows two things. The first is providing better performance for Minecraft servers. It does this by optimizing different things within the Minecraft server software. You can also control a lot of PaperMC’s features turning them on and off depending on what features you want within it’s config files.
The second feature that a Paper Minecraft server has in 1.21 is the ability to add plugins to your server. There are tons of different plugins out there that will help take your server to the next level. From plugins that stop grief to plugins that jobs and leaderboards to your server to plugins that add features like /home or /warp, plugins truly do take your server to the next level, so let’s jump into it!
First off, we need to download the PaperMC files for 1.21. You can find a link in the description above to download the Paper Minecraft 1.21 server files. That will take you to our complete text guide on getting a Paper Minecraft server. On this page, click on the “Download PaperMC” button to go to the official Paper download page.
Here, you will be able to select Paper and then click the “Paper 1.21” button to start downloading the paper.jar file.
Next, create a new “Paper 1.21 Server” folder on your desktop and move the Paper jar file you downloaded into it. Then, right-click on the “paper” file you downloaded and rename it to just “paper.jar”.
Now, create a new text document and open it. Copy and paste the code in the description above into this new text document. With the code pasted in there, click “File” and “Save As”. Name the file “run.bat” and set the “Save type as” to “All Files”. Save the file, and you will now have a run.bat file.
Double-click the run.bat file, and as long as you have Java 21 installed, you can find it linked in the description above if not, your server will try to start but fail. You will now have an “eula.txt” file. Open this and change “eula=false” to “eula=true” assuming you agree to the EULA. Save the file, and double-click the run.bat file again. Your Paper 1.21 server will now start.
At this point, you can join your server using the IP address “localhost”. However, in order for your friends to join your Paper Minecraft server, you will need to port forward the port 25565 on the TCP and UDP protocols. You can also add plugins to your server. This is done by just adding them to the “plugins” folder in your server’s directory. When you restart the server, the plugins will be activated! You can use the /plugins command on the server to confirm they are installed.
