How to Route Domain Names to DigitalOcean's Custom DNS - Add A Type DNS Record with a WWW. Hostname
In this video, I will show you how to point to DigitalOcean Name Servers (NS) from a domain registrar called Namecheap. A Name Server is a server on the net which is a fundamental part of the Domain Name System (DNS). DNS is a naming system that maps a servers domain name such as, websplaining.com to an IP address, like 138.68.161.215. This is how we are going to route our domain name to our website IP address hosted on our DigitalOcean droplet (cloud server). I will also be showing you how to add an A type DNS record on DigitalOcean. DNS records are text instructions stored on DNS servers and the "A" type DNS Record stands for Address. The A type DNS record that we will be adding in this video guide will contain the WWW. hostname and this will direct to our DigitalOcean Droplet IP address. For example if you have the domain name websplaining.com for a website that has configured an A type (www. hostname) record redirecting to 138.68.161.215, then conveniently all a visitor to your website would need to type into their browser would be www.websplaining.com which is way more memorable when compared to your droplets IP address.
