How to Switch PS5 Controller to Different Connected Device (Best Method)
Switching your PS5 controller between different devices is now much easier, thanks to a recent PS5 system software update. The DualSense controller can now remember up to four different devices, eliminating the need to re-pair it every time you switch.
Part 1: Initial Setup (Pairing Your Devices)
First, you need to assign each of your devices to a "slot" on the controller. You only have to do this once.
Turn off the controller: Make sure your controller is turned off and not connected to any device. If it's on, press and hold the PS button until the lights turn off.
Enter Pairing Mode with a Slot: To pair a device to a specific slot, press and hold the PS button along with one of the four face buttons for more than 5 seconds. This will put the controller into pairing mode and assign that button combination to the connected device.
PS button + Triangle = Slot 1 (Typically for your PS5)
PS button + Circle = Slot 2
PS button + Cross (X) = Slot 3
PS button + Square = Slot 4
Connect the Device: On the device you want to connect to (e.g., your PC, Mac, or phone), open your Bluetooth settings. You should see "DualSense Wireless Controller" appear in the list of available devices. Select it to complete the pairing. The controller's player indicator lights will show which slot the device has been assigned to.
Part 2: Switching Between Devices
Once you have set up your devices, switching between them is a simple button combination.
Make sure the device you want to switch to is on and its Bluetooth is enabled.
Press and hold the PS button and the face button corresponding to the device you want to switch to for about 3 seconds.
For your PS5: Press and hold PS button + Triangle.
For your PC: Press and hold PS button + Cross (X).
Release the buttons when the light bar and player indicator begin to blink. The controller will then connect to the device linked to that slot.
If you are having trouble, you can always revert to the wired method for your PS5 by plugging the controller into the console with a USB-C cable. This will force a connection and re-establish the pairing.
