How to Turn Off Parental Controls on PS5 Don't Restrict Account
If you’ve forgotten the parental controls passcode (console restriction passcode) on your PlayStation 5 (PS5) and want to turn off parental controls without restricting any accounts, you’ll need to reset the console to factory settings, as Sony doesn’t offer a way to bypass or recover a forgotten passcode. This process will disable all parental controls and remove the passcode but will also erase all data on the console. Below are the steps to achieve this while ensuring accounts remain unrestricted:
Back Up Data (Optional but Recommended):
Save games, screenshots, and other data to avoid permanent loss.
Go to Settings, System, Back Up and Restore, Back Up Your PS5. Use a USB drive or PlayStation Plus cloud storage if subscribed.
Sync trophies via Trophies, Sync with PlayStation Network.
Access Settings:
Sign in with any account. If parental controls block access, proceed to Safe Mode (Step 4).
Navigate to Reset Options:
From the home screen, select the gear icon for Settings.
Go to System, System Software, Reset Options, Reset Your Console.
Reset via Safe Mode (if Settings is inaccessible):
Turn off the PS5 completely, not in Rest Mode.
Hold the power button until a second beep, about 7 seconds, to enter Safe Mode.
Connect a controller via USB and press the PS button.
Select Reset PS5 from the Safe Mode menu.
Perform the Factory Reset:
Choose Reset PS5 (Reinstall System Software) if prompted. This wipes all data, including parental controls, the passcode, and user settings, resetting the console to its original state.
Follow on-screen instructions. You may need a USB drive with the latest PS5 system software, downloadable from PlayStation’s official site.
Set Up the PS5 Again:
Follow the on-screen setup process after the reset.
Sign in with your PlayStation Network account(s) and restore backed-up data if available.
During setup, do not enable parental controls or console restrictions to keep all accounts unrestricted.
Verify Parental Controls Are Off:
After setup, parental controls and the passcode are disabled by default (default passcode is 0000 if restrictions are later enabled).
To confirm, go to Settings, Family and Parental Controls, PS5 Console Restrictions. No passcode should be required, and restrictions should be off.
Ensure all accounts have full access by checking user profiles under Settings, Users and Accounts, Users.
