The Dreamcast flight simulator Iron Aces looks a bit different in Japan, translated as Imperial Hawk: Fighter of Zero (インペリアルの鷹 FIGHTER OF ZERO). It is one of a number of games in the Fighter of Zero series on the PlayStation. However, few games in this series ever made it to the west. While the game has a World War II era look about it and uses planes from the time, the story, characters and locations are totally fictional. The four countries that appear in the game appear loosely based on Japan, United Kingdom, America and Germany.
Unlike Iron Aces the Japanese version features a far more in depth story which shows you and your squadron discussing issues as the game progresses. Not everyone is going to make it to the end either and new character are introduced as the war rages on.
Many of the missions are also altered or flipped from the western release, with defence becoming attacking and some missions are totally different. Only the opening mission, so far we have seen in a carbon copy in both versions. They act more like expansion discs to one another and if you enjoyed the flight combat action of Iron Aces and want more then grab a copy of this.
