0Full gameplay longplay, playthrough walkthrough, guide and trueplay of the Story Mode in Vatlva as Jill & Rats. This superb battle arena multiplayer title sadly remained only in Japan, but it's a great party and versus title. Yuzo Koshiro company Ancient work on a number of excellent SEGA Saturn titles on the system and the studio's work often gets overlooked at times.
Yuzo Koshiro and Motohiro Kawashima supply the excellent music which gets you rocking to this game. While Hitoshi Ariga was behind the design of the characters and Ayano Koshiro did the art direction. The end result is comic book style visuals that work perfectly with the tone of the game and the animated video. As up to six players can battle it out in this scaling screen arena battle game. While the story / arcade mode is not very long, each time you finish it you unlock one of three bosses.
The main fun comes from the versus and the customisation modes. Versus mode can be played against friends or CPU opponents to allow for six cars to battle it out in one match. You can also turn on regulation mode in the options menu to allow you to customise and upgrade your vehicle's weapon set up, this can also be done in story mode, when the option is turned on.
Jill is the younger brother of Gell Bates (one of the bosses), we do wonder if his name was supposed to be Gill instead. Fans of The Story of Thor games will recognise the mice / rats he uses in-game to drive his car from The Story of Thor / Oasis games.
Interestingly the Game Boy Advance (GBA) title Car Battler Joe looks to linked to Vatlva in some form. However there is next to no documentation on this, but the main characters in it looks to be a younger version of Jin set a year before Vatlva, both have the same look and scar, the game also features the same style car battle tournament during the story. Both Victor and Ancient also worked on it along with all the key staff members of Vatlva.
