Jerp plays Monster Hunter World pt.10 - A Surprisingly-awful Sendoff for Zorah Magdaros (2021-06-12)
After fixing my audio issues and having a good many streams to actually test to ensure it’s all good, I finally came back around to settle that whole Zorah Magdaros problem. While all of the battles you have with the creature are pretty similar (and underwhelming), this one takes it to a whole other level.
It’s clearer than ever that you can’t really fail the quest. It’s effectively a glorified bonus round where you have some extra rewards and mining spots where regardless of how you fare, everything moves without you. I ended up completely missing the Nergigante encounter (there were some extra climbable parts on the back that weren’t clear at all) and later was just arbitrarily kicked off Zorah’s back without even finishing the magma cores. Once on the wall, I completely flubbed making good use of the cannons but the quest completed anyways.
As the quest completes, I go from everyone yelling at me to get stuff done to being congratulated for doing just about nothing. What a mess! I hear that overall Zorah Magdaros is the worst quest in the game, and I’m hoping so -- I’m wanting to keep playing the game but if any future quest is that bad, I’m out.
I ended up doing a couple of extra quests with much tougher variants of existing creatures outside of their normal locales, and they were at least about as decent as the average quest, though I’m really wanting to fight more interesting monsters with better music than the standard “orchestral elevator music” that World’s had so far (Freedom Unite and even Tri had much, much better music).
