In preparation for one of three colonies currently planned in the Kerbol System, this probe is sent to become a permanent satellite of Jool's moon Pol. It is equipped with both a M700 scanner and a narrow band scanner to view resources on the surface of Pol both close up and at range. Using a large second stage to propel itself to Jool, a NERVA (atomic rocket) to brake, and an ion engine for final adjustments, the probe had to completely switch its orbital direction around Jool in order to reach Pol-ar orbit.

Pol, around with Gilly and Dres Orbit, is one of the selected sites for colonies and refueling stations. The first supplies will be shipped to Pol at the next Kerbin-Jool Transfer window.
