Today we are building a soon to retire Lego set that I far too long procrastinated on buying. Finally, after a 25% off sale at a local toy store, we are building and reviewing the Lego Icons Classic Re-Imagined Galaxy Explorer set #10497, with 1,254 pieces. I have known about this set for about a year now, but just couldn’t pull the trigger on it. I was drawn in by the re-imagined look of a classic basic Lego set. The simplicity of the classic spacemen, and the grey and blue were super attractive to me. Eventually I found myself at Legoland CA and saw it on for sale along with Benny the Spaceman merch from the Lego Movie and made my decision that I will by the set before it retires locally. Luckily I found it on sale not even looking for it! The set is re-imagined from the 1979 version 497 / 428, and the original designer was one of the people behind the classic minifigure. Unboxing this set we find 9 bags, no stickers, and a medium sized book. The build only took around 2 hours, and was very pleasurable. This build almost made me feel like a kid coming up with my own creation. Reviewing the set we find all sorts of play features even though this is an 18+ set. We have a ramp in the rear with a buggy, we have detachable jets the minifigures can ride, wonderful printed elements making the interior, and an annoying droid that we have to build. I love the reference to the original by the 928 on the side. Before we give our final thoughts on this set we install a Lego Flag in our background to hide the weird collection of stuff that always behind me. My final thoughts on this set is that is a definite recommend, and you should really get it, especially if you like that older Lego goodness. As always please comment your thoughts down below.
