Building large scale application is more difficult than many people understand or expect. Join me in this long running series where I set out to duplicate one of the most popular social media platforms ever creating using Java, Spring Boot, Spring Security, PostgreSQL data, React JS web application framework and more.
In this episode we switch gears and work on some more notification features. Specifically in this episode we set it up so we can notify the loggedIn user when there are new posts they can view on the feed. To do this we first setup a new NotificationSlice to store all of the different types of notifications that are coming in. Then we clean up the App.tsx file by extracting all of the websocket logic into a reusable hook. Wrapping up by creating a new component that displays there are new posts to view on the feed and adding little blue circles to the navigation icons when there are notifications to view.
