Building large scale application is more difficult than many people understand or expect. Join me in this long running series where I set out to duplicate one of the most popular social media platforms ever creating using Java, Spring Boot, Spring Security, PostgreSQL data, React JS web application framework and more.
In this episode we continue working on notifications. This time setting up our frontend to fetch all of the users notifications excluding the new post notifications. To do this we start out in the backend to create a new set of methods to get all the notifications whether they have been acknowledged or not. Then we come back to the frontend to modify the NotificationSlice to be able to fetch all of the notifications as well as send acknowledge requests when the user reads their notifications. Finally we wrap up with fixing up any issues we created while refactoring the readNotification reducer, setting the application up to fetch the notifications when we connect, and creating a new NotificationsPage that can display our notifications that we fetched from the backend.
