Let’s Play Commander Keen IOTV #13: When Pew-Pews Aren’t Enough
Due to interruptions in recording, there are one of two cuts during this video. I have done my best to make them as difficult to notice as possible and can only apologise for them.
We may be armed with a powerful zappy pew pew pistol, but that alone isn’t going to ensure our victory against our foes. Sure, it’s useful when we come across vorticons who want to defeat us, but this chapter is full of obstacles and challenges that can’t be fired upon with pew pews. Tricky jumps and timing puzzles are just as tricky to overcome as a group of enemies, perhaps more-so as you can only rely on your quick reflexes and precise input to survive and as we all know, I’m not that great when it comes to either.
Fortunately we have absolutely loads of extra lives, allowing us many attempts at each level should we need them. Theoretically, we could have an unlimited number of tries provided the level we fail to clear gives us at least one life before we get to the obstacle we’ve having difficulty with, not to mention all the ammunition for our weapon we could pick up along the way. Taking that one step further, you could purposefully fail to clear a level that gives loads of lives and ammunition on purpose to stock up on both should you need to, a strategy I won’t be employing but one to keep in mind should I return to the game at a later date.
