Though Hiro has managed to master some of the power of the Daikatana, his mastery is still nowhere near at the same level as that of Kage. This makes sense considering that he spent a large portion of his life learning the blades magic whereas Hiro has held the sword forged by his ancestor for only a hour or so. That said he is of the bloodline of the original creator, so perhaps that means the power of the weapon is unlocked easier by him. I can't say if that's the case for certain as magic is a difficult thing to explain when it's written well and here, it is not written well.

Either way, Hiro and his friends are now stuck in a completely different time period, which means that we won't see any more tridents or discs. We are seemingly further forward in time, which you'd hope would mean that the weapons we'll find here are more powerful. That's the least of our concerns however, for we happen to have arrived at a very dangerous period of time, one in which the population of England halved and many other countries suffered just as terribly. In England society forever changed on account of the workforce shrinking so dramatically and though many think that which caused it is gone, it still exists in some parts of the world.

What I speak of is the bubonic plague - known also as the Black Death - a horrific disease through the bite of infected fleas that were brought around Europe by rats, who themselves were on trading vessels that brought death and pestilence to the medieval world. Let's just hope that Hiro and his friends are fortunate enough to avoid catching it while they're in this time, a time they should seek to leave very quickly.
