Being the final major dungeon of the game, the palace of shadows is the most difficult challenge Drake and his companions have ever faced. The enemies hit hard and can reform if you don't take pick up their remains fast enough, but they still have the same weaknesses as any of the foes we've come across. They aren't good at dealing with doorways and they're rather slow to give chase to you. While one of them has no ranged weapons, the other is quite capable at pelting you with magick as well as dealing some damage up close, though the damage isn't quick enough for you to suddenly die to that. Provided you take it slow and steady and use your healing only when you need to, your companions will do a decent job of keeping your health from plummeting too low. That said you can't rely on their magic to save you in a pinch so be prepared to use your own or some of your healing roots if you have to.

The items you need to get to progress is actually very early on in the dungeon but you can only access one of them easily. To get the other you either need to fight your way through the floor or take advantage of your teleportation magic and re-enter the palace of shadows. It might be tempting to avoid most of the fights in this place but it's the last real place to get level ups for your skills and attributes, not to mention it's best to take care of foes when you face them rather than leaving them for you to stumble into if you have to flee.
