Let's Play Donkey Kong Country 2 - Part 3: Lava's Forever
With Krow defeated and World 1, Gangplank Galleon, completed, we now head off to World 2, Crocodile Cauldron. It's not uncommon for a video game to have a lava-themed world, but what really IS uncommon is for it to show up this early in the game. That said, there is no level in Crocodile Cauldron that really qualifies as annoying or unusually difficult...except maybe on your first time through. The first one, 2-1, Hot-Head Hop, is very fun, in fact. You spend half the level bouncing over lava pits on crocodile heads and the other half cheesing everything with the abilities of Squitter, a spider animal buddy for whom this level is his first appearance ever. A great level with great music, that's what this one is. Kannon's Klaim is the next stage (2-2), and it actually isn't lava-themed at all. It takes place in a mine shaft instead. This one can actually be rather tricky the first time, mainly because of all the barrels that you have to blast through in sequence. The eponymous Kannon is a large Kremling who shoots barrels or cannonballs (you can jump on the former but not the latter), and he goes down just as easily as any other enemy. 2-3 is Lava Lagoon, which is another underwater stage. Except here, the water is a little different...it starts out red-hot and can damage you, and you have to cool it down with what seem to be magical seals in order to swim in it. You could consider the red-hot water lava, I guess, but it doesn't really look or act like lava, plus it's changed into water by the seals, so I think of it as just really hot water.
