Let's Play Donkey Kong Country 3 - Part 7: The Metal of Nowhere
We now come to the other of the two worlds that were unlocked after obtaining the hovercraft. I consider Mekanos World 4, although it could be done third (and Cotton-Top Cove fourth). This is a mechanical-themed world, which I assume gave it its name; I guess it's a factory on an island or something.
Fire-Ball Frenzy is the first stage here. It is a...I don't even know what to call this theme. Factory? Okay, it's a factory-themed stage, the first in the game, with pretty rockin' music and a new enemy: Karbine (I think that's its name), which is a small owl-like baddie that shoots fireballs. They're all over this stage and in no other. There are ropes to climb on and moving platforms to ride up and down and back and forth, and we get to see a new animal buddy: Squitter! He first appeared in Donkey Kong Country 2. He's a spider that can shoot two kinds of webs, one for taking out enemies and another that can open up into platforms in mid-air. You can have up to two web platforms on the screen.
Next is Demolition Drain-Pipe, the first of the mine-cart-type stages. (Okay, so the vehicle you ride in isn't exactly a mine cart...) It's a sewer pipe full of bee and ladybug enemies, plus you take damage if you crash into a wall. You can also sometimes latch onto metal rods on the ceiling. It seems a bit more fast-paced than the mine cart stages in either of the first two Donkey Kong Country games, but it's a fun stage in any case.
After that comes Ripsaw Rage, another forest stage...with an enormous saw cutting upward through the trees the whole time! You have to stay ahead of it, because it damages you if it touches you. This one also auto-scrolls upward. I normally abhor auto-scrolling stages, but this is one of the very few that I don't mind (especially since the auto-scrolling actually has a purpose besides just adding fake difficulty). You just keep going up until the stage stops scrolling and the saw stays put, and the exit is right there.
I didn't have a good-bye message for this one because I forgot to stop recording after Ripsaw Rage and ended up splitting the video. Oh well.
