Let's Play Donkey Kong Country 3 - Part 3: Bad Things Happen in Trees
With a new microphone and a whole new outlook on life (well, okay, maybe just a new microphone), after over three weeks of no LPs, I'm finally back!
Now that I've completed the first world, Lake Orangatanga, I move on to the second, Kremwood Forest. It's the forest world of DKC3 (obviously), with an all new assortment of themes. Barrel Shield Bust-Up is the first stage (2-1)...and if you're not careful, it will bust YOU up! You spend a significant time on ropes dodging projectiles thrown by annoying little monkeys clinging to the sides of the trees. They can't hurt you, but the stuff they throw certainly can! You either have to climb quickly past them or hide behind a "barrel shield", half a large barrel on the side of the rope that the enemies are on. Later in the stage, the barrel shields also start to move back and forth. Oddly, the only really annoying parts of this stage to me are the bonuses...they both contain the acorn-throwing monkeys, but there are no barrels to hide behind! One of them is a Grab 15 Bananas, no less, which is ALWAYS a good sign (catch the sarcasm?).
Riverside Race (2-2) is next on the list, and it is a rather interesting one. In it, you are constantly being chased by a swarm of red bees (although they look more like butterflies), but you can avoid them by jumping over them repeatedly or getting into the water. You'll have to revisit this one at least once, though, because while you can get both bonuses and the DK coin in one go, there is a little side quest here, where you must complete the stage in under 1 minute and 15 seconds. It's not that difficult to do, though (I made at least two significant mistakes and still made it). I sure wasted a lot of time in this one, though...I don't know what it was, but I was just screwing up a lot more than I should have been in this episode, seriously...
2-3 is another mill-themed stage, Squeals On Wheels, and it involves a bunch of rats in hamster-wheel-esque things. You have to defeat them to cause little red meters to change to green, and when they are green all the way, a door opens up and allows you access to the rest of the stage. We also meet Parry here, who is easily the lamest animal buddy (and unfortunately, must be kept alive to get a bonus in two stages).
