Let's Play Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D! Part 2 - For want of a crown
THERE IS NO AUDIO COMMENTARY FROM ME FOR THE FIRST 45 MINUTES. I forgot to unmute my mic when I started recording and didn't realize until 45 minutes into the video and by then I had saved over the file I started the session with. I wasn't willing to completely lose this session, so I just rolled with it.
I start things off with adjusting the music and sound effects volume with the intention of having better balance between the game and myself, which is kinda funny since I can't even be heard at first. Then I visit the arena to talk to the old man and see if that has any effect on being able to recruit the rabbit that hides in town at night (it doesn't). Finally, I go around raiding the castle for treasure and approach the king to get my next quest goal: recover his crown that had been stolen.
We head north through a checkpoint to see a cutscene, then continue exploring northwards until we reach the village of Khoryv (what a dumb name). Not much is actually going on here, but it's a good rest stop on the way to the next dungeon and does have treasure, equipment, and a monster to recruit.
The next dungeon can be found further to the west; Skyfell Tower isn't too dangerous at this point and has a few decent treasures and another monster to recruit. At the top is the thief that stole the crown, accompanied by three of his cronies. The battle against him is actually fairly difficult, though depending on your party composition you might be able to lock things down fairly well and stay alive more easily.
Returning the crown, the king decides that he'd rather not be any longer and gives it to us... so that I can become Queen. It's an interesting little diversion, but you can't do anything as Queen, so it's necessary to find the king in the monster arena and make him take it back. This done, we head north again to Khoryv (whyyyyy....) and save our game for us to come back to next time!
