Well, we're in the place that lets us change our class. Might as well get Videl some badly needed abilities by changing her class to Thief. This is important as Thief is the only class that learns the Padfoot ability, which lets us sneak up on friendly monsters that run away at our footsteps. Thieves also get the neat field abilities Nose for Treasure and Snoop, which tells you how many treasures are left on the current floor and will pinpoint if those treasures are on the screen/minimap. Finally, Thieves get some neat combat abilities that can put enemies to sleep, paralyze them, and confuse them, as well as an instant death attack, a wind element double attack, and an attack that deals 6x damage if the enemy is asleep or confused. Very good abilities, but not in the hands of a Thief. Once we have learned them all, we'll be changing Videl again, though I don't know what class it'll be.

Anyways, we collect the Pepper from the merchant in the Abbey, then get the class change going, then we check around for a replacement for the Cat Suit since I'm not fond of it. Finally, we head north to the Tower of Transcendence (again, stupid name; nothing was wrong with Tower of Garuna). This place is a crumbling ruin, like much of this world we've seen thus far, but has a treasure known as the Words of Wisdom (or Book of Satori... or Zen Scroll). We actually already have one of these from the preorder bonus, but I didn't feel like using that one. Plus there's additional treasure and a monster to collect here.

This region and dungeon sees frequent groups of Metal Slimes attack us. These award over 1000 experience for a full party for each one killed. They only have like 3 HP, but their defense is immense, they are very fast, immune to all elemental spells, and frequently run from combat before you can even get a turn. Killing them is a priority.

Now that we have Padfoot learned, it's time to go collect all the monsters we missed, including a couple that we just didn't get for having missed them the first time. Also, locating all the treasure we missed previously as well. Once that's done, it's back to Alltrades to take the pass southeast and then north around the mountains to reach our next destinations. There's an inn on the way, and far to the north is a tony village that isn't important to progressing the plot, but is important regardless as a location with treasure, shops, a monster to recruit, and some cutscenes involving Ortega!

Once we get dear old dad's helmet, we go back home to show it to mom, then remember to go get a couple more monsters, then head back to Portoga to turn in the Pepper. He treats us to dinner made with said pepper, has us stay in the castle overnight, and we get a completely unnecessary cutscene that tells us exactly what we need to be doing now. This really sucks and I hate it. Oh well, we got a boat, so next time we go sailing.
