Let’s Play HC Minecraft Take Three #71: Finding Fluffy Friends

In previous versions of the game, the only way to find cats was to locate a jungle biome and befriend a lynx. Jungle biomes aren’t exactly the most common of things, but fortunately the changes to how villages function have made locating that biome for cats unnecessary. Stray cats will now spawn in suitably large villages, meowing for attention while also fleeing when you approach. The key to getting them to come to you is crouch walking to them slowly while holding a raw fish. Feed enough to them – a random amount – and you’ll befriend the cat.
While cats have a few annoying traits compared to dogs in this game – they love to sit on chests, blocking your access to them – two enemy types are afraid of them: creepers and phantoms. They’ll flee from cats, allowing you to be safe from their wrath. Phantoms aren’t a common enough encounter for this to come up often, but they can be a lifesaver as far as creepers are concerned. Unfortunately they can’t defend themselves from threats like dogs can and their height can get them into bother in submerged areas. So long as you keep an eye on them they should be alright, though I tend to leave mine at home to relax and preen forever, such is a cats want.
