Let's Play Mega Man X6 - Part 2: Afternoon in the Amazon
Time to start the REAL stages! I have chosen to start the game off with Commander Yammark's stage, the Amazon Area. It's a very good choice for a first stage; the stage itself is fairly easy, the boss is fairly easy, and the weapon you get from the boss is VERY useful. I imagine most people do this stage first, and I can certainly see why. There are even some clues within the stage that imply that the game designers expected most people to start with it.
The stage is rather interesting, too. As the name would suggest, it's set in the Amazon rainforest...but that doesn't limit it to one theme. The stage starts out in the open, but you later go through an enclosed area and through a cave, and finally back out into the open again over a large bottomless pit on a series of platforms suspended in the air. The boss door is on the other side of the gap.
Commander Yammark, who may also be called Commander Dragonfly (one FAQ I read had alternate, more literal names for the bosses because the author didn't like the provided translations), is a unique one. He's a large green dragonfly, and he has smaller dragonflies that either fly around him, follow him as he flies, or fly up and down above and below him. Depending on how much health he has left, he will have either 3, 4, or 6 small dragonflies. (Lower health = more dragonflies.) These dragonflies damage you if you touch them, obviously, but they can be destroyed. (I don't think I showed that in the video, though...) They also fire green balls of energy quickly, and these can be destroyed as well. He sounds like he could be a tricky one to beat, and I suppose he COULD be...but he's not. He's quite easy.
Upon defeating Commander Yammark, you get the Yammar Option (no K)...ah, yes, the Yammar Option. It creates three dragonflies that circle around you. Said dragonflies can deal damage to enemies by crashing into them (they are destroyed if they take too make hits, though), and they also shoot green balls of energy when you press the special weapon button. It doesn't take any weapon energy to make them shoot, either! If you charge the weapon, the dragonflies will glow yellow and become indestructible, and they will fire on their own, glowing yellow shots the same size as the green ones that go outward instead of directly forward. After a while, they will stop glowing and change back into the regular dragonflies. Can I just say that I freaking LOVE THIS WEAPON? This could very well be the best weapon in the ENTIRE Mega Man X series. I don't know if it's as good as the Metal Blade (in Mega Man 2), but it's definitely close. Expect to see the Yammar Option quite a bit during the course of this LP (compared to the other special weapons, especially) because I like it so much.
With one stage completed and seven to go, we officially have a foothold in Mega Man X6.
