Only one Maverick left to go! Let's make Gate really nervous...shall we?

The final stage of the eight main ones (going by my order), the only one that we haven't seen yet, is the Recycle Lab, where Metal Shark Player resides. (Or Metal Shark, if you prefer; there's a story behind his odd name that I recount in the video.) The Recycle Lab can be really nasty for some people; some sources claim it to be the most annoying stage in Mega Man history. I, however, beg to differ. The only thing that makes this stage so tricky is the huge trash compactor, which forms the ceiling of the entire stage (except for a couple select parts). This compactor constantly goes up and down, and if you happen to get caught between it and a surface, you get squished, which translates into instant death. The actual enemies in the stage really aren't very threatening, although you might want to take things slow the first time through, since the Nightmares have a habit of placing themselves over solid ground where you can't shoot them, and if they get to a Reploid before you do...! This stage is divided into three sections, each one more difficult than the last. After the second section, the path splits, and you can go left to the Dr. Light capsule and secondary area or down to the rest of the stage. Obviously, I went down. The third area of the stage not only has the compactor, but there is also a conveyor belt on the floor...and something else: the Nightmare effect. Blizzard Wolfang's Nightmare effect, to be specific, which covers much of the floor with ice. It's slippery, and slippery is not good when there are big things that can crush you about (not to mention death spikes, which make an appearance in the third section). This happens only in the third section, though, and only in this stage. After the third section (during which I got amazingly unlucky once) comes a midboss (during which I got amazingly lucky once). This midboss seems to be some sort of living trash compactor or something; it drops bombs, puts out spiked arms, and tries to crush you. It has a little rectangular part with six blue and pink orbs on it; the blue ones shoot lasers, and the pink ones are what you need to hit to defeat it.

After the midboss comes the real boss, Metal Shark Player himself. He's one of the more interesting and fun bosses to fight; he can "swim" scross the floor, "swim" below the floor (only his fin will stick out), throw his Metal Anchor weapon at you, and, at half health, do what has to be one of the coolest attacks in a Mega Man game. He jumps up into a corner and summons a ghost of a Maverick from a previous game. Since I'm playing as X and on Normal mode, I get Magna Centipede from Mega Man X2, who fires three shots at a time from his tail.

Upon defeating Metal Shark Player, we get the Metal Anchor, which shoots an anchor that bounces on the floor. At least, that's the *uncharged* version...the charged version creates a swarm of metal replicas of Storm Eagle (a boss from the first Mega Man X) that pretty much destroy anything and everything they touch. Unfortunately, this attack is canceled if X gets hit while it is happening. We also get Metal Shark Player's Nightmare effect, the only one that occurs in three stages.

That's all eight Nightmare Investigators defeated and all eight special weapons obtained...time for the fortress! Or is it...?
