Let's Play Mickey's Magical Quest 2 - Part 1: Run Off to Join the Circus
For my next trick...I shall be returning to the Super Nintendo and the Magical Quest series, with the second game: The Great Circus Mystery. This is indeed Mickey's Magical Quest 2 (or Disney's The Magical Quest 2, or whatever the heck you want to call it), though it was never given the number in the American version...at least not for the original release. These games were re-released for the Game Boy Advance later, this time with proper numbering as well as the third game finally being available in English...but we'll get to that. The second game plays pretty much like the first, though the sublevels of stages are no longer numbered and you have a choice of two playable characters, Mickey or Minnie. They play identically, so pick whichever you want.
As we start the game, we find out that something strange apparently happened at the circus, which is rather a step down from the last game and a kidnapped dog right off the bat. Stage 1, The Haunted Circus, is pretty short and straightforward, with a sub-boss (a fire-juggling weasel), a few very brief gimmicks, and a pretty simple boss battle. We start off outside on the grass, then head on over to the circus tent and pick up a new outfit (already?), the vacuum cleaner suit, which allows you to suck things up. If you suck up enemies with this, they will turn into coins, but its range is pretty short, so be careful with it. Climbing up the outside of the tent takes us inside to some rather annoying enemies being fired out of a cannon, then back outside to the boss, a lion that apparently has a detachable mane. Jump on him when it isn't "swirly" to hit him. You can suck his mane off a piece at a time to leave him defenseless, but I find that that tends to take longer than just fighting him without the vacuum.
With that, we've cleared stage 1 and begun another LP, and one that should not take very long at all (these games are awfully short...). I might have to plan another project soon....
