Let's Play Mega Man X3 - Part 3: Tunnel Vision
Well, this LP isn't supposed to update only every 2 days, but if I keep forgetting to upload the next episode, it will be.... Anyway, we move on to the second stage. This would be Toxic Seahorse if I were going by weakness order, but I'm not, and I like to do Tunnel Rhino second, mainly because his weapon is needed for one of the next items you can get, though also partly because the stage has another easy Sub-Tank and partly because doing these two stages first gives me both weaknesses of the special bosses should I choose to use them. (That was actually my original reason for doing this stage second when I did it years ago.) The stage isn't what I'd call one of the easier ones, though...the sub-boss is easy enough, and the boss himself isn't too hard, but this stage is fairly long and contains a number of enemies that either are in annoying places or have some annoying attacks. (Protip: Do NOT charge your shots around the wall-climbing crab enemies, because then they will charge theirs as well!) Tunnel Rhino himself, well...he basically will do one of four things, only three of which we actually saw. His favorite thing to do is to charge from one wall to the opposite one, though he will sometimes stop short and turn around (which is actually rather dangerous if you're not prepared for it). At lower health, he can also do a faster, invincible charge. He can also shoot drills in one of two configurations: a column of three that go horizontally, or kind of a spreadshot. He hardly ever does the latter, as you might imagine from it not showing up in this fight. You definitely want to stay on the walls for this boss, though dash-jump off them before he hits them so you don't get shaken off. From him, you get the Tornado Fang, which...isn't a lot better than the previous weapon we got. It's at least a little faster and can potentially hit multiple times, though. It's basically just a small drill that pauses and then shoots forward. It is durable enough that, if an enemy is not immune to it, it can actually keep going after destroying it (and, as we'll see much later, it can actually hit the boss that is weak to it twice if timed right). Afterward, we get a cutscene with Dr. Doppler, a "Mysterious Maverick", and a couple of new villains that will serve as our special bosses for this game (though unlike X2, you can't skip them).
