Let's Play Might and Magic 7! Part 10 - The War for Harmondale
Well, it's time. We need to talk to the King of the Dwarves, which will give us a new quest to rescue the dwarves that were turned to stone in the Red Dwarf Mine. Once we do this, we return them to the King and he will agree to fix our castle. Once this is done, our first trip to the outside of Harmondale will tell us that delegations from the Humans and Elves have arrived to our throne room.
Each one asks us to visit their respective rulers, which we do with some rather quick Town Portals. Both kingdoms have a quest for me: Queen Catherine Gryphonheart wants me to rescue an agent of theirs named Loren Steel who the elves had captured, while King Parson Eldritch asks us to steal the plans to the human outpost Fort Riverstride and bring it back to them.
We could actually tell the other ruler about these quests and would instead be given "convincing fakes" to turn in which would definitely be easier but would result in smaller rewards, so we opt to just do the dungeons and get the genuine articles. First up the Tularean Caves to rescue Loren Steele.
This place has a couple puzzles to it and can be fairly dangerous, filled with Troglodytes, Wyverns, and Elven Warriors. Loren Steel is kept in a separate location hidden by a teleporter. Two of the teleporters would take us to the location of an exit that would lead to the basement of Castle Naven (and drawing aggro from everything in there, closing off the throne room to us for a long time).
Fort Riverstride, on the other hand, has two entrances as well, but the back entrance is located under the fort itself and is basically an easier and straighter shot to the plans without having to fight all the guards. Not that I care and I wind up clearing the place out anyways (there are barrels here!).
Having returned what was asked of us by both rulers, it's now time to wait. I do a lot of walking back and forth between Tularean Forest and Avlee in order to make time advance, and one point where I return to Tularean Forest we get a message that a battle has broken out here between the humans and elves.
We also get told that an artifact that both sides are after happens to be nearby and that if we get it first, whoever we give it to would likely win the war. The artifact in question is Gryphonheart's Trumpet, and is located in a chest nearby the entrance to Tularean Caves. The warriors of both sides are fighting each other here, but are friendly to us, so we just wait for the fighting to end and loot all the fallen bodies.
Now who to give the trumpet to? We could give it to either ruler, or... We could take it back to Harmondale and talk to someone that I have yet to speak with called Judge Grey. He occupies a home on the outskirts of Harmondale and acts like the Oracle did in the previous game providing hints and returning lost quest items to us if we still need them. He's supposed to be the neutral arbiter of the conflict between the Humans and Elves, and by handing him the trumpet, we are basically declaring Harmondale independent. This is the option that will give us the most experience!
Having done this, we are basically done with the war. Now it's just a matter of passing time before the next story event happens.
