Against the advice of Rune, Alys and company have decided to infiltrate Zio’s fortress and rescue Demi, the android who alone can shut down Nurvus. Only shutting down Nurvus will stop the impending environmental catastrophe that’s approaching Motavia, one that’ll render the planet uninhabitable. We’ve seen first-hand the terrible power that Zio has but the hand of the party has been forced by the need to rescue Demi, so onwards they go towards potential doom.

While all the other places the group have been to so far in the game have been linear and short, this place is the first true dungeon that they’ve encountered. With many branching paths and multiple floors, you need to be prepared for a long excursion into the sinister building, which means lots of consumable items and conservative use of your abilities. That there’s a town nearby where you can rest and stock up on items is surely no coincidence, allowing you to clear the fort a piece at a time if you have to. If you need to gain a few levels you can do so here quite safely as well as outside in the overworld, but I think we’re prepared enough for what the fort has to offer, at least when talking about the random battles. The inevitable boss battle – or battles if we’re unlucky – are another thing entirely.

If they’re lucky, they’ll manage to get in and out without encountering the current tenant, but I don’t rate their chances of that happening even if it hasn’t so far. It’s only a matter of time before Alys and her friends encounter Zio and when they do I hope they’re ready, because if they’re not...
