Let’s Play World’s End Club (Blind) - Episode 29: The Dangers of Real-Estate
0Somewhere between being crushed by space debris and vitamin A poisoning on the list of unusual causes of death, we have the real-estate market. That’s right; one moment, you could be enjoying some free cookies at an open house, and the next second… BAM! An earthquake hits and you’re dead. That’s what happened to Jennu’s sister after Niyan asked her to come to Kyoto to look for a house after they got married and is the reason why Jennu hated him to the point of contemplating letting him die.
Though speaking of Jennu, out of all of the characters in this game, I find her to be my least favorite- not because her personality is grating or unpleasant, but rather that she only really contributes as a character on the Kyoto path.
Seriously, every member of the group that the story starts with gets some moment of character growth/to contribute to the overall plot no matter what paths are taken except her. Think about it: Reycho and Pochi show what they’re made of and earn the position of leader for their efforts; Mowchan and Tattsun start off as meek/timid, but step up to the plate when their friends need them; Nyoro learns to cope with her daddy issues and has some good bonding moments with Pochi; Pai and Chuko have their whole arcs with their respective love interests; Kansai, depending on the path chosen, learns to take responsibility for his actions or that even the best of leaders have weak moments; Aniki gradually learns to open up and move past his guilt over Vanilla’s accident; and Vanilla’s got the whole ghost thing going on.
But then we have Jennu, who only gets some form of development for one act and one story event before going back to being part of the background. Heck, Jennu’s dead sister- one of her two defining character traits- doesn’t even get a name or her face shown. With Nyoro’s dad, I can understand the developers not giving him a name on the grounds that Nyoro, the primary person who would be talking about it, would call him by his title- Dad, Father, ect. But as for Jennu’s sister, Jennu would have no reason not to refer to her by their first name- especially if they were as close as they say.
